Chairperson, Christina Fowler
Christina has been the Chairperson of the Board since 2013. Her experience as the Executive Director of the Saint John Learning Exchange is a tremendous asset to the organization and has helped to strengthen the partnership between the two organizations.
Member of Coordinating committee: Lyn has been an active member of the organization for more than fifteen years. Her hands-on support of the poverty workshop and planning of many events sponsored by WEN has made her an invaluable member of the board.
Member of Coordinating committee: Robin joined the board in 2013 and brings her experience of working as a social worker in the field of mental health to the organization. In her current position as social worker with the Community Health Centre, she is often the “go to person” to provide support or direction for some of the women who access our programs.
Kit Hickey, treasurer
Kit is a founding member of the organization. In addition to supporting the creation of WEN, she has also provided bookkeeping services in kind for more than 18 years. Kit is the Executive Director of Housing Alternatives and her expertise in the area of affordable, adequate housing is a valuable asset to staff and the women we serve.
Randy is the Executive Director of the Human Development Council, another organization who helped to establish WEN. He has sat as member of our Coordinating committee for a number of years and brings to the Board a social planning and community inclusion lens. Randy brings to the board a vast knowledge of the vital statistics and profile of our community as well as a strong sense of social justice.
Mary Bridget Walsh
Mary Bridget is a case manager with the Department of Social Development. We have a great partnership with the department and very much appreciate her role in strengthening that relationship. Mary Bridget brings to the Board, the skill of “getting to the heart of an issue”, is
thoughtful in how to approach challenges and has a terrific sense of humor; all of which are welcome assets!
Joanne is our representative on the provincial Women’s Council. In addition, she was very involved in helping to plan our 20th anniversary and worked as a mentor in our POWER UP! program. She currently works on contract with the New Brunswick Community College as an invigilator. Joanne is dedicated to making a difference in the lives of individuals living on the margins in our community and we value her compassion and insight.
Mary Ellen Martin
Mary Ellen is one of three new members who joined the Board at our 2016 Annual General Meeting. She is the Coordinator of the Saint John Police Department's Victim Services Unit which provides support through crisis intervention and long term follow up for people who have been victims of crime or exposed to a traumatic event. Mary Ellen has volunteered with a variety of community non-profit organizations and brings her expertise in both the criminal justice field and working with survivors to the work of WEN.
Trish has been connected with WEN since 2014. She worked as a POWER UP! intern, as an assistant with the Learn & Go program and joined as a Director of the Board in December 2016. Trish is an eloquent speaker/storyteller and is often asked by the United Way (a WEN funding partner) to speak about her experience(s) with WEN. Trish is passionate about helping women to discover their full potential and to live their lives to the fullest.
Michelle works with the Department of Post-Secondary Education, Training and Labour as an Employment Counsellor. She is one of our newest Board members having joined in December 2016. Michelle has a passion for supporting people who are trying to make their way out of the poverty trap and her knowledge of the labour market and current trends will be a great asset to our organization.
